Overview

Acalolepta

*Acalolepta* Pascoe, 1858 is a medium to large genus of longhorn beetles (15–35 mm) belonging to the subfamily Lamiinae, immediately recognisable by its robust, cylindrical body densely clothed in cryptic, mottled grey pubescence that renders resting adults nearly invisible against bark. The genus is centred in East Asia — China, Japan, Korea and South-East Asia — with 15 Palaearctic species and 7 recorded from the European fauna. Adults are active from May to August, feeding on bark, shoots and leaves, while larvae develop subcortically and into the wood of dead or dying broadleaf trees, principally oak, mulberry and fig, over one to three years.
