Overview

Carilia

*Carilia* Mulsant, 1863 is a small lepturine longhorn beetle (8–14 mm) with a distinctly tapered body, often strikingly coloured in combinations of black, red, and metallic tones. Adults are active by day from May to August, visiting flowers of Apiaceae and Rosaceae in boreal and montane forests, along forest meadows and stream margins. Larvae develop slowly over two to four years in decaying wood of dead or dying trees. The genus is restricted to the eastern Palaearctic, with three species recorded in Europe.
