*Exocentrus* Dejean, 1835 is a genus of small to medium-sized longhorn beetles (5–12 mm) whose mottled grey pubescence renders adults virtually invisible against bark. With 18 species across the West Palaearctic and 6 in Europe, these crepuscular to nocturnal beetles inhabit broadleaf forests where larvae develop subcortically and into the wood of dead or dying branches and slender trunks, typically 1–7 cm in diameter. Host plants include *Quercus*, *Corylus*, *Fagus*, and *Ulmus*, with larvae consuming the sapwood zone and pupating in an irregular chamber just beneath the wood surface.
