Overview

Gaurotes

*Gaurotes* LeConte, 1850 comprises small to medium longhorn beetles (8–16 mm) immediately recognizable by their striking metallic blue-green coloration and tapered, elongate body. Adults are conspicuous visitors of flowers — particularly Apiaceae and Rosaceae — in montane forests and woodland edges, where they feed on pollen and nectar during daylight hours between May and July. Larvae develop subcortically and in decaying wood of dead conifers, completing their development over approximately two years, with overwintering occurring in the soil. The genus ranges across Europe, Siberia, and North America, with a single species recorded from the European fauna.
