Overview

Miaenia

*Miaenia* Pascoe, 1866 is a small but robustly built longhorn beetle of the subfamily Lamiinae, measuring 5–10 mm and clad in dense, cryptic pubescence that renders adults nearly invisible against bark. The genus is associated with deciduous trees, particularly oaks and hornbeams, whose dead or dying wood provides the larval substrate across a developmental period of one to three years. Adults are active from May to August and feed on bark, shoots, and leaves of host plants. With its distribution centred in Japan and eastern Siberia, *Miaenia* represents a characteristically East Palaearctic lineage within its tribe.
