Overview

Palaeomegopis

*Palaeomegopis* [auct., verify] is a robust, large-bodied prionid beetle reaching 20–45 mm, with a distinctly flattened profile and predominantly dark brown coloration. Found across subtropical montane forests of southern China and northern Vietnam at elevations of 500–2000 m, adults are strongly nocturnal and are most reliably encountered at UV light traps between June and September. Larvae develop slowly over two to five years deep within the heartwood of dead or dying broadleaf trees, reflecting the ancient ecological habits characteristic of the broader Prioninae lineage.
