Overview

Polyarthron

*Polyarthron* Audinet-Serville, 1832 is a small genus of three species confined to North Africa, with a single representative reaching the European fauna. These robust, flattened beetles of 15–30 mm are among the most distinctive Prioninae of the western Mediterranean, recognised above all by the extraordinary fan-shaped (flabellate) antennae of the male. Strongly nocturnal and capable of powerful flight, adults are most reliably encountered at UV light traps between June and September. The genus is intimately associated with Cupressaceae, particularly *Tetraclinis articulata*, and its larvae develop slowly over two to five years deep within host wood.
