Overview

Pterolophia

*Pterolophia* Newman, 1842 is a medium-sized genus of Lamiinae (tribe Pterolophiini) with a centre of diversity in East and Southeast Asia, represented by 7 species in the West Palaearctic and around 15 across the Palaearctic region as a whole. Adults measure 8–20 mm and are characterised by a robust, cylindrical body clothed in dense, cryptic pubescence that blends remarkably well against bark and dead wood. The genus is associated with dead or dying branches of broadleaved trees, particularly Fagaceae and Moraceae, where larvae develop subcortically before entering the sapwood. Adults are active from May to August and are principally diurnal to crepuscular in habit.
