Overview

Vadonia

*Vadonia* Mulsant, 1863 is a medium-sized longhorn genus of the subfamily Lepturinae, with 12 Palaearctic and 4 European species distributed across southern and central Europe, North Africa, and Turkey. Adults are diurnal and conspicuously coloured — often yellow-orange — and are regular visitors to flowers, particularly *Knautia*, *Achillea*, and *Plantago*, with peak activity in June. Larvae develop underground in the root systems of living herbaceous plants, with development lasting at least two years. Favoured habitats are semi-steppe localities, meadow edges, open *Quercus pubescens* and *Q. cerris* woodland margins, and neglected gardens up to around 1500 m altitude.
