Overview

Akimerus

*Akimerus* Audinet-Serville, 1833 is a monotypic genus of the tribe Lepturini (Lepturinae) represented in Europe by the single species *A. schaefferi* (Laicharting, 1784), a rare inhabitant of old-growth deciduous forests in central and south-eastern Europe. Adults, ranging from 15 to 25 mm, are conspicuous visitors of umbellifer and rose-family flowers along forest edges and rides during the summer months of June through August. The genus is widely regarded as a reliable indicator of forest continuity and structural maturity, being found almost exclusively where very old oaks or veteran beeches persist.
