Overview

Anisarthron

*Anisarthron* Redtenbacher, 1845 is a small, dark, cylindrical longhorn (6–14 mm) placed within Spondylidinae — a subfamily otherwise strongly associated with conifers, making its specialisation on broadleaved trees a notable biological curiosity. The single European species frequents parks, avenues, gardens and less often woodland, developing in dead wood of mostly living trees: wounded trunks, broken branch stubs and exposed, barkless surfaces. Adults are nocturnal fliers, active from May to July, and are considered uncommon throughout their range in central and south-eastern Europe.
