Overview

Anoplistes

*Anoplistes* Audinet-Serville, 1834 is a small genus of striking longhorn beetles, immediately recognisable by their bold red-and-black patterning and elongate-cylindrical body ranging from 12 to 25 mm. With ten species across the western Palaearctic and four reaching Europe, these beetles favour open steppe and semi-arid habitats where their host plants — willows, poplars, and roses — grow in scattered stands. Adults are strong fliers, active from May to August, and are most readily observed on freshly dead wood or beneath bark of their host trees.
