Overview

Archandra

*Archandra* Lameere, 1902 is a monotypic genus of the subfamily Parandrinae, represented in the West Palaearctic by its sole species, *A. caspia* (Ménétriés, 1832). Strikingly flattened and lucanoid in appearance, adults measure 8–15 mm and are reddish-brown, almost entirely glabrous. The genus is a Hyrcanian relict, restricted to the Caucasus and northern Iran, where larvae develop over 3–5 years in rotten wood of broad-leaved trees, particularly *Parrotia* and *Fagus*. Adults are nocturnal and non-feeding, flying from June to August.
