Overview

Asemum

*Asemum* Eschscholtz, 1830 is a small genus of dark, cylindrical longhorn beetles associated with coniferous forests across the Holarctic region. Adults are matt black to dark brown, measuring 8–22 mm, and are most active at night during spring and early summer. Larvae develop in stumps, root collars, and the lower portions of dead or dying conifers, boring initially beneath the bark before entering deep into the sapwood. The genus is attracted to freshly cut or recently dead wood and can be found by searching beneath the bark of conifer stumps, particularly of *Picea* and *Pinus*.
