Callimus

*Callimus* Mulsant, 1846 is a small but conspicuous group of longhorn beetles, immediately recognisable by their bicoloured livery of dark and red or yellow markings against a slender, elongate-cylindrical body measuring 6–14 mm. Adults are thermophilous, appearing on flowers during warm days from late spring into early summer, and are associated principally with oak and chestnut woodlands at lower elevations across southern and central Europe. Larvae develop in freshly dead branches of *Quercus* and *Castanea*, beginning their feeding beneath the bark before penetrating into the sapwood, with development requiring one to two years.
