Overview

Chelidonium

*Chelidonium* Thomson, 1864 is a small, monotypic-core genus of Cerambycinae confined to the eastern Mediterranean region, where its members inhabit oak woodlands from sea level to around 1000 m altitude. Adults range from 18 to 35 mm and display notably variable coloration, lending the genus a diversity of appearance unusual for so few species. The larvae develop in dead or dying *Quercus*, progressing from subcortical galleries into the sapwood over one to three years. The genus occurs in Turkey, Syria, and Lebanon, and is considered genuinely rare throughout its range.
