*Isotomus* Mulsant, 1863 is a small Mediterranean genus of longhorn beetles comprising five Palaearctic species, two of which occur in Europe. Adults measure 8–15 mm and are recognisable by their pale fasciate pubescence, which varies considerably in density: some individuals bear sparse whitish tomentum, others are continuously and densely coated, particularly in populations from the southern Balkans. Development takes place in dead wood of deciduous trees such as *Quercus* and *Carpinus*, with larvae attacking branches and trunks ranging from 3 to 35 cm in diameter, whether still barked or fully stripped.
