Monochamus

*Monochamus* Dejean, 1821 — the Pine Sawyers — are among the most conspicuous and ecologically significant longhorn beetles of the Northern Hemisphere, with 35 Palaearctic species and 6 occurring in Europe. These robust, cylindrical beetles (10–35 mm) are clad in mottled grey pubescence that renders them remarkably cryptic against conifer bark. Adults are most active from May to September and are strongly sexually dimorphic: males carry antennae reaching two to four times the body length, among the longest relative proportions found in any European cerambycid.
