Morimus

Among the most recognizable flightless longhorn beetles of Europe, *Morimus* Brülle, 1832 presents a broad, robust body draped in dense grey-brown pubescence patterned with irregular dark patches — a superb imitation of weathered bark. With elytra permanently fused and hindwings absent, these beetles are entirely ground-bound, emerging nocturnally to clamber across dead trunks and freshly cut timber in oak and beech forests from Italy and southeastern Europe to Turkey.
