Overview

Oberea

*Oberea* Dejean, 1835 is a large and species-rich genus of longhorn beetles, comprising some 80 Palaearctic species, of which 10 are recorded from Europe. The beetles are immediately recognisable by their very elongate, parallel-sided bodies (8–20 mm) and striking bicoloration, with an orange-red pronotum contrasting against darker elytra in many species. Adults are active from May to August on living twigs and thin branches of a wide range of deciduous shrubs and trees, including *Salix*, *Corylus*, *Lonicera*, and *Euphorbia*. Larvae bore longitudinally through the pith of living stems, where they also pupate; *O. linearis* is a recognised pest of hazelnut.
