Overview

Pedostrangalia

*Pedostrangalia* Sokolov, 1897 comprises small to medium longhorns (8–18 mm) with a characteristically tapered, bicolored body, encountered most readily as adults visiting flowers of Apiaceae and Rosaceae along forest margins and in parks during late spring and early summer. The five Palaearctic species develop as larvae in decaying wood of dead or dying deciduous trees — principally oak, hornbeam, and related hardwoods — favoring moist zones near wounds, cavities, and healed bark lesions where callus tissue forms. Three species occur in Europe; the genus ranges from Central and South-Eastern Europe through Turkey to the Caucasus, typically from lowlands up to about 1,500 m altitude.
