Overview
Semanotus
*Semanotus* Mulsant, 1839 is a small to medium-sized genus of conifer-associated longhorn beetles (8–18 mm), represented by 5 Palaearctic species, 2 of which occur in Europe. Adults are recognisable by their brownish ground colour broken by pale, undulate fasciae across the elytra, and are active chiefly in spring. Larvae develop subcortically in dying or recently dead conifers — principally *Juniperus*, *Picea*, *Abies*, and *Thuja* — before entering the sapwood to pupate in characteristic hooked chambers. *S. undatus* is regarded as a notable pest of juniper.
