Overview

Turanium

Turanium Baeckmann, 1922 is a small but ecologically distinctive cerambycid genus of the arid zones of Central Asia, where adults and larvae are closely associated with drought-tolerant shrubs such as tamarisk (Tamarix) and saxaul (Haloxylon). Measuring 8–16 mm, these beetles display variable coloration and patterning across their two Palaearctic species. Adults are strong fliers, active between May and August, and are most readily encountered on dead or dying host material. The genus represents a characteristic element of Central Asian steppe and semi-desert beetle fauna at elevations from sea level to 1000 m.
